Halo
Advanced installation
What the install script does, its options, and signature checking.
Most people only need the one-line install on the Installation page. This page covers the details.
What the install script does
- Detects your OS and processor type.
- Downloads the matching release and its
checksums.txt. - Checks the release signature, when OpenSSL 3 is available, then the archive's checksum.
- Installs
haloto/usr/local/binwhen that is writable, otherwise to~/.local/bin. It never asks for root.
Read the script before running it if you prefer.
Options
| Variable | Effect |
|---|---|
HALO_VERSION=vX.Y.Z | install a specific release |
HALO_INSTALL_DIR=... | install somewhere else |
HALO_REQUIRE_SIGNATURE=1 | fail instead of continuing when the signature cannot be checked |
curl -fsSL https://memcode.ai/halo/install.sh | HALO_INSTALL_DIR=$HOME/bin shSignature checking on macOS
macOS ships LibreSSL, which cannot check the release signature, so on a stock Mac the install script verifies the checksum only.
- To check the signature during install, install OpenSSL 3 (
brew install openssl), or setHALO_REQUIRE_SIGNATURE=1to stop when the signature can't be checked. halo upgradealways checks both the signature and the checksum.
