FAQ
Common questions about Halo Preview.
Is Halo free?
Yes, during Preview. Reasonable usage limits apply. Pricing after Preview will be announced before it changes.
How is Halo different from an AI coding agent?
Halo is built for computer tasks (files, processes, Git, archives, media and the like), not for writing code. It reads supported requests into explicit steps with compact, purpose-built models and runs them locally, which makes it fast and predictable. For writing code, use Memcode Code.
Can it run any command?
Halo handles a bounded set of tasks well, and you can always run a command
directly with $. It will not turn an arbitrary request into an arbitrary shell
script.
Does it work offline?
Commands with $ work offline. Reading plain-English requests needs the Halo
service.
What does Halo send to the cloud?
Your request and the context needed to read it, never your files or results. See Privacy & telemetry.
Can the service run something on my computer?
No. The service proposes; Halo on your machine checks every proposal and decides.
Which model does Halo use?
Halo's own models, served as halo-orbit-preview during Preview.
Windows?
Not yet. macOS and Linux only during Preview.
