Halo
Installation
Install the Halo client on macOS or Linux in one line, verify it, and keep it up to date.
Halo is a single binary for macOS and Linux on x86_64 and arm64. Windows is not supported yet.
Install script
curl -fsSL https://memcode.ai/halo/install.sh | shThe script:
- detects your OS and architecture;
- downloads the matching release and its
checksums.txt; - checks the release signature (Halo's release key signs
checksums.txt) when OpenSSL 3 is available, then checks the archive's checksum; - installs
haloto/usr/local/binwhen writable, otherwise~/.local/bin, without asking for root.
Read the script before running it if you prefer.
| Variable | Effect |
|---|---|
HALO_VERSION=vX.Y.Z | install a specific release instead of the latest |
HALO_INSTALL_DIR=... | install somewhere else |
HALO_REQUIRE_SIGNATURE=1 | fail instead of continuing when the signature cannot be checked here |
macOS ships LibreSSL, which cannot check the release signature; the checksum is
still verified, and halo upgrade always verifies the signature itself.
Verify
halo versionUpgrade
halo upgradehalo upgrade downloads the latest release, verifies its signature and checksum,
and replaces itself atomically. If either check fails nothing changes.
Uninstall
Delete the binary (rm "$(command -v halo)"). Halo keeps its conversation history
in ~/.halo and its preferences in ~/.config/memcode/halo.json; remove those too
for a clean slate.
